About What do U think illegal day Laborers say ban on seeking work on the street violates their civil rights

What do U think illegal day Laborers say ban on seeking work on the street violates their civil rights?
The lawsuit filed against Costa Mesa in U.S. District Court comes after police dressed in plainclothes posed as employers in September and arrested a dozen workers, sparking the ire of immigrant rights groups. It's the latest in a series of lawsuits filed by day labor advocates against California cities that limit workers' right to solicit employment on street corners. Advocates said laborers have a constitutional right to free speech and cities can't bar them from seeking employment and simultaneously let activists wave signs against the Iraq war. "Our core constitutional principles of equality and freedom demand that a day laborer enjoy the same right to free expression as a political activist or a member of a charitable group," Belinda Escobosa Helzer, a staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, told reporters at a press conference Tuesday. Costa Mesa's city attorney did not immediately return messages seeking comment. The city located 35 miles southeast of Los Angeles passed the ordinance banning work solicitation in 2005. Costa Mesa also shut down a labor center where workers previously congregated and stepped up immigration enforcement by partnering with federal agents. It is the eighth federal lawsuit filed in California by the ACLU and Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund over such ordinances in the last 12 years, Escobosa Helzer said. The previous lawsuits have settled or been won by workers, she said. One was appealed and is pending a ruling by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The lawsuit comes as day labor advocates said they have seen more American citizens lining up at labor centers around the country because of the recession. Workers in Costa Mesa said they had yet to see Americans join them, but labor centers elsewhere in Southern California have. "It is a rogue city in terms of protecting civil rights," said Pablo Alvarado, executive director of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, which is also representing the workers. On Tuesday, two dozen workers and their supporters marched in Costa Mesa to voice their opposition to the ordinance. "They don't want us to be on the corner and we just want to work to sustain our families, and ourselves," said Jose Anaya, a Mexican immigrant who has sought work as a day laborer in Costa Mesa for the last three years. http://www.mercedsunstar.com/Nation/story/1295957.html Why are these places given illegals full instant US citizenship rights but without requring them to be actual citizens with legal documents stating by law they are allowed to work here legal/illegal does it matter anymore to them ? By the way do our tax dollars pay these places ? Evelyn j.. What the UN states is what they think. We are not at this point allowing the UN to run this country...

Because the ban also bans citizens and legal residents from seeking work in such a manner. The rights of those citizens are being violated.
2 :
Their civil rights? What gives them these rights when they enter the country illegally. I do not understand this mentality.
3 :
Citizens have rights, illegal aliens do not have rights.
4 :
i think it similar to what happend to the oakies during the great depression and the dust bowl everyone has rights as stated by the UN http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/
5 :
Good post. As much as I skeeve them, most anti-war protesters are American citizens and have rights afforded them by our constitution. These illegals are not citizens, and therefore are not entitled to the same rights as citizens. I don't mean that they shouldn't be afforded certain rights, as would any visitor to our nation, but being non-citizens they are, by law, barred from seeking employment. Just as someone from Britain here on vacation would be barred from working. It has nothing to do with their being hispanic illegals; it does however have something to do with non-resident aliens working here in the first place. No special rights for illegals!
6 :
Loitering laws apply.
7 :
How about telling them the law about loitering

This Trojan Horse is a couple of million times the size left as a gift for the city of Troy. You don't have to go far for the answers, just look to the “real racist” groups like The National Council of La Raza (The Race), MeCHA, LULAC, and a terrorist group called the “Mexica Movement.” Their official platform says: “We totally reject all illegal European Colonial Squatter Occupation Borders on our continent. We also reject Colonialism’s right to keep stealing the wealth of our lands. And we reject their artificial divisions of our people!” This is a group that thinks America is their property, and anyone who doesn’t fit their description should leave the country. What it also means is this is a hateful, racist and terrorist group, and it should be denounced immediately. Of course, we will be called racist. What Americans are fed up with are the millions and millions of people who come here and do not want to assimilate or learn the language. People who send their earnings “home” to another country. People who are turning 2 bedroom apartments and single family homes into illegal camps housing up to 100. People who are stealing I.Ds and Social Security numbers from American taxpayers. People who are turning entire neighborhoods and city sections into Tijuana’s, where half the store signs advertise “llanteras usadas.” People who are killing American citizens at the rate of 27 per day through murder, drunk driving, etc. People who expect and demand their kids to be taught in Spanish, and don’t care what we Americans think. People who since 2000 have desecrated our National border parks with 25 million tons of trash. People who decline to buy auto insurance or set enough aside to cover their liabilities. People who use our expensive hospital emergency rooms as their cold and sniffle clinics. The real complaint here is that those “lazy Americans” who still try to “follow the rules” find themselves increasingly squeezed and taxed, fingerprinted and regulated and licensed and strip-searched, while the illegals thumb their noses, disregard our wishes, and give the finger to our laws. Why would they want “reform” of a law they’ve shown no intention of obeying? What they really want is “belly up immigration surrender” - free instant citizenship rights to all government welfare benefits for any of their people who can get here. Why is it dangerous that we can’t discuss these things frankly in the open, without crippling euphemisms that disguise what this is really about? We’ve all seen the news coverage with millions of illegal aliens waving Mexican flags in our streets demanding to be awarded citizenship. We’ve heard the threats from the their seditious leaders elected to our offices. We’ve seen the American flag burned, or hung upside down beneath the Mexican flag. They insist we’d be nothing without them. They call it “Reconquista.” The sleeping giant is starting to rise from its decade’s old slumber. They are artificially encouraged by tens of millions of their illegal illegitimate brethren that victory is within reach. The coming conflict with these parasites in parasite’s clothing will end with the American citizens authorizing a mass banishment that will make President Eisenhower’s “Operation Wetback” puny in comparison. The illegal alien network support system and Mexican government will counter with “you can’t possibly deport 12 million people. Yes we can deport 30 million people. I suppose the counter stopped in the 1990s when we first heard the 12 million figure. There will a national movement. Legislators and Lawmakers will be forced to write new restrictions. To be an illegal alien in the United States will become difficult. People will self-deport. Those who don’t will be arrested, and imprisoned. The national bleeding will then stop. I will no longer have to press 1 for my own language

Hey Heidi, I'm assuming you are requesting generic brands, and this is still financially hard on you, understandable. This is what I was able to come up with for you from here in CA. Go to this website, it is your state governors site, and she has implemented this discount card for prescription medications, too ALL AZ residents. http://azgovernor.gov/coppercard/index.asp If that site does not work, just find your state governor, Jan Brewer's site, and look for a link to the card there. Oh, the card is totally free of any charge at all, and offers the discounts that will hopefully help you. Hope this helps a bit? Take care!

About Volunteer work to a non profit community oriented service

Volunteer work to a non profit community oriented service?
I did a traffic violation/beating the red light and I need to do a volunteer work. I live in la mesa, california. Do you have any ideas where I could do this. I am a nursing student too. It would be nice if the volunteer work is related to health, but if not its okay. THANKS FOR HELPING ME.

try asking the local police where to volunteer or try looking in your local phone book...
2 :
at a church or synagogue
3 :
Try the meals on wheels in the phone book - it may be under not for proft or non-profit or social service agencies.
4 :
do research on the internet to see if there is a domestic violence shelter for battered women and their children. I volunteered at a place like this once and it opened up my eyes!!! It went by so fast and I learned so much about psychology. Good Luck!!!
5 :
ok: with the " Community's Retirement Centers they are Non Profit Organization that needs Volunteer Workers yes & it's very important " visit http://www.community.retirementcenters.org
6 :
Go to www.volunteermatch.org, enter La Mesa, and you will find many up to date opportunities. Hope the volunteer work continues even after your penalty hours are complete!
7 :
Volunteer San Diego is your local volunteer center. They can help connect you with all sorts of projects. http://www.volunteersandiego.org They have a nice variety of projects that are very convenient for people with standard work schedules, with a lot of stuff on evenings and weekends. You can even filter the projects on the calendar for just the East County stuff. Good luck!
8 :
Look up anything you can think of---Use your imagination. Abuse shelters, SPCAs, homeless shelters, hospitals, historical societies, nonprofit groups. Check the phone book and the internet for any of these items near you. Perhaps you could ask at local offices and organizations if they know of any nonprofit groups---Often, they'll have some suggestions you hadn't thought of. I work for a local nonprofit museum, and we take community service workers. Often, they don't think of us, but when they do, we're glad to have the help.

Depending on how much you want to spend, what do you want to rent an apartment or a condo or a house? $ Costa Mesa, Tustin, Santa Ana $$ Huntington Beach $$$ Irvine, Newport you can check on www.apartments.com or www.forrent.com or www.rent.com
2 :
How about Costa Mesa. It is a nice city. I live there. The area West of Harbor, south of the municipal golf course is the lowest cost area. I live in that area. The area east of Harbor and north of Adams is nicer though. Look on www.craigslist.org for places. To give you an idea, I pay $1220 a month for an 800 sq. ft. 2 bedroom 1/2 duplex with a single garage and a small fenced yard. The only place cheaper in the OC is in Santa Ana.
3 :
The Cape Apartments are by South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. Another great place is Huntington Beach. Check Craiglist.org and you will find rentals or even people looking for room mates. My buddy has a dog and that is how he found a great place. Good Luck!

About what can I do to help maximise my chances of getting a seat on the plane, flying standby

what can I do to help maximise my chances of getting a seat on the plane, flying standby?
Okay I'm flying from Kansas City to Charlotte to visit some friends. My friends dad works for Mesa airlines and got me cheap stand by tickets. I've never flown stand by before and I understand that there is a chance I can get stuck at O'hare airport in chicago during my connection. How does standby flying work and what steps/precautions can I take to insure the best chances of getting a seat on each of my planes and what do I do if no seats are available??
Air Travel - 2 Answers

Standby is first come first serve. So to make sure to get on if there is an opening is to get there as early as possible to get on the standby list first.
2 :
Standby is not really first come first serve if he got you a Buddy Pass, which it most likely is - its based on seniority and you are at the very bottom of the list. There really isn't anything you can do to maximize your chances of getting a seat other than having your friend's dad check the loads and list you on a flight that is wide open.

Auto Glass Mesa AZ? Where Can I Find Great Auto Glass in Mesa?
Hello all! My Windshield broke driving down the 60 in Mesa AZ, and apparently I was smart and opted for auto glass coverage through my insurace so I don't have to pay a penny =D Here's the thing, I know alot of Mesa auto glass companies give you incentives like free dinners (which I dont want) and free money (which I do want)! Does anyone know of a good auto glass Mesa shop that has a good program like that? I also need the auto glass mesa shop to replace my windshield at my work in Mesa. Thanks Everybody! xoxoxo ~ Billie ~

Hey Billie! Sorry to hear about your windshield. I know that can be a real pain. You should definitely get that Mesa auto glass fixed quickly though, that’s a dangerous repair! A few years ago I had my windshield replaced by Rock Star Auto Glass. They specialize in replacing Mesa auto glass, and they even come to you to repair it. I looked at their site today, www.RockStarAutoGlass.com, and noticed they still offer this mobile service for free. Another good thing, they give you cash back too! I just saw that on the site they are currently offering $75 back on all auto glass work. I think this will solve your Mesa auto glass needs! I recommend Rock Star Auto Glass for your Mesa Auto Glass because they offer a lifetime warranty on their glass, and they actually honor the warranty. Just check out their site or call them. (Their number is 480-232-5554) Again, sorry to hear about your problem but hopefully you get your Mesa auto glass repaired quickly! Hope all works out, Chris

It all depends on how much you'd like to spend. We live in Irvine, which is one of America's safest cities. However, it's expensive (it's the next city over from Costa Mesa.) Parts of Costa Mesa are nice; parts are a little run-down. If you're not worried about schools, why not live near the beach?
2 :
If you can afford it, live in Newport Beach. Its very nice and safe, plus close to the beach!!
3 :
Irvine (safest city in America, four years in a row), Newport Beach, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Tustin.
4 :
You would actually be fine living in Costa Mesa. Nice place actually.
5 :
Irvine, Orange, Costa Mesa, Tustin are all very nice, safe and close .....
6 :
Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Irvine, Orange. In most of the cities there are nice areas and not so nice areas. There are really nice houses and apartments in Costa Mesa if you look in the right areas.
7 :
Costa Mesa is perfectly fine. Actually, most of Orange County is very safe. Just avoid certain parts of Santa Ana and Anaheim. Irvine might be good for you too.

I work for a company called ChaCha, an online answering service. People text random questions to ChaCha, everything from "What is the weather like?", to "How old is Will Smith?" Then the question comes to your computer and you get paid per question you answer. You can answer as many or as little as you want and work anytime 24/7. It's an easy way to earn extra cash for paying bills or eating out, and it lets you be your own boss. They are always looking for new employees. You can apply at http://becomeaguide.chacha.com/ and use sciencio@rocketmail.com in the referral box. If you have any question or need help getting started you can email me anytime and I'll be happy to assist.

The best one around Mesa will be Phoenix Palace on Dobson and Ray. Make sure you don't go to the buffet one on Warner and Dobson. Phoenix Palace on Dobson and Ray serves authetic Chinese food and dim sum as well. It is one of the 3 best dim sum restaurants in Phoenix area I have tried so far. They servce authentic Cantonese cuisine. I highly suggest you go there for dim sum for lunch and have dinner over there. Their lunch menu is the typical americanized Chinese food so the quality is only average as expected; but dinner menu is awesome especially if you can read the Chinese menu. Furthermore, they have Karaoke available on Friday and Saturday night after 9:30 pm.
2 :
Also try Golden Canyon on the North/East corner of Dobson and Southern. Their egg foo yung is not the greatest but most of their other dishes are very good.

You won't even have to get on the freeway!! Not only is it possible - it's a dream. These two cities are neighbors and even if you're at the far end of Irvine, you'll still be way ahead of the game. If you're on the fence about taking the job, you should definitely take it and call yourself lucky :D

Yes. I know plenty of people who live in Irvine and work in Costa Mesa. Both cities are approx. 15-20 min. away from each other by car.

Can I be denied health/dental insurance from my employer because my wife is pregnant? I work in Costa Mesa, CA
I have been an employee for a year and could only enroll during open enrollment. My wife is only being put on my dental. They said after the baby is born then we are cover?
Dental - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
I always thought that they could just deny pre existing conditions and whatever they listed as not covering. I never heard of anybody actually being told they couldn't get insurance because of being pregnant. They may be afraid of having to cover any complications because if they don't want to cover pregnant women it should be included in a list of things they don't cover. See if there is a policy that you can look over stating what and who qualifies and who doesn't.
2 :
Would need a little more info on that one. If you were only able to enroll during open enrollment then no they can not. The reason they maybe saying after the baby she would be covered is because most dental procedures other then a cleaning are usually not preformed during pregnancy unless medically necessary.
3 :
I'm not sure what the law is in California. You should definitely contact your Department of Labor and ask them.
4 :
I'm pretty sure that's illegal. My wife was 2 months pregnant when I started my new job and she was covered right away. I think pregnancy cannot be considered a "pre-existing condition." But then again, California is more liberal than Texas about those things. It may be different there.

I am looking for a new job in the restaurant business. I only have about 11 months of experience though, so it would have to be a place that will train me to be a server. I am looking for a casual dining restaurant in the Mesa/Tempe/Gilbert area. I am also looking for a place that pays good.
